Inspiring Story

I met my friend Alissa my freshman year at MSU.  We pledged the same sorority and were in the same pledge class.  Over the course of 4 years, our pledge class got weeded out.  Some left, some stayed.  She went away and worked on a co-op program and then came back.  At the end of our 4 years in the sorority, we were both still around.  She dated this sweet guy named JR all through college (and high school!) just like I dated the hubby.

I realized how much we had in common over the years.  They both grew up basically in the next little town from me yet we never met until we went to Starkville, 3 hours away.

She and JR both LOVE Mississippi State.  And the MSU Diamond Dawgs.  I've been to a few games with them.

They love each other, their families, the Bulldogs, and people!  They love the Lord and show it in their daily lives.

Since graduation, she and JR have been living in my hometown.  We used to see each other almost daily as our kids went to the same daycare.

3 years ago, they had a super sweet 100% all boy, we call the Plum!  I remember a time when she said something at a dinner night we had one time.  I think it was when she was still pregnant.  What she said made me think that one day, she and JR were going to do something amazing.

Pics borrowed from Alissa's blog
 And next month, they are.
They will be adopting a sweet baby boy named Sam from China.

They leave on Dec. 19th and get back in January.

That means no Christmas at home with the Plum.  That means being away from the Plum for 3 weeks.  That means LOTS of travel and lots of expense.

I wanted to share their sweet story because it's inspiring to me.  And I think it will be to you as well.

I'm going to ask for prayers for all 4 of them!  Alissa and JR are excited, yet nervous.  The unknown.  The separation from the Plum.  Although, the Plum will be just fine. He's staying with grandparents who will NO DOUBT spoil him!!

While they will be getting the best Christmas present ever, they still covet your prayers.  It's going to be a transitional time for all 4 of them.

Sam is getting an awesome family and no doubt a brother who will love and ADORE him and teach him all things BOY!

Alissa and JR, I'm so excited for you!  Thank you for being such an inspiration.  I will be praying for you all over the next few months.  I can't wait to meet Sam!

Tip Tuesday

I have no tip for today.  Between the holidays and sick kids and everything else we have going on, I didn't think of one!

So, be kind to your neighbor.

That will have to do until I have more time to write!

True Maroon

Here in the South, we like to say we 'Raise 'Em Right!'

My Mississippi State Bulldogs have had a great season thus far. 8-4 is not too shabby in the SEC West!  Although we lost our rivalry game this weekend, we still believe and always will believe in our Bulldogs.

Why?

Because that's what we do.  Through thick and thin.  No fair weather fans here!

Needless to say, my brother and I (along with our spouses) have passed on this passion to our children.  My youngest is 15 months old and can say, "DAAAAAWWWWWGGG" like nobody's business.

My oldest loves talking about the Bulldogs.

It warms the heart.

We cheered on our Bulldogs this weekend, while celebrating Holly's belated birthday.

And so it didn't go our way this year, but I'll take an 8-4 season!

 The bro and his wife.
 Love.

She's trying to convince to make silly faces.

 He's not buying it.

This was the silliest we could get from him.

Love this one too. Except my kid looks possessed.

 CHEEEESSSSEEEEE faces.

After this one, Baby Sister was DONE with picture taking and moved on to the slide!

And since this is MY blog, I will say it.

HAIL STATE

If that irritates you, don't be jealous. We know we have a cocky Coach and a smart Athletic Director.

We are TRUE MAROON, win or lose!

Go Dawgs!

Disney on Ice

Last weekend, Mom and I took the girls to see Disney on Ice.  We have been before so I was hoping it would be a bit different.

Big Sister loved every bit of it.  There was Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, Ariel, the Lion King, Mickey and Minnie, and so many more I can't remember.  I was constantly fighting with a super busy 15 month old.

These were the best pics I could get.

 Saying CHEEEEEEESSSSSEEEE!

The best I could get of the busy bodies.

Photo taken by an almost 6 year old!!

This was the only time she was completely still.   When Mickey and Minnie were on the ice!

This is one of my fav shots. Baby Sister was begging to sit with her Big Sister and watch.  I think Snow White was on here, which Big Sister does NOT like because of the witch.

We had a pretty good time and then hit up the DQ on the way home.  Good times with family!

Flashback Friday

I was looking through some pictures the other day and found these and they are some of my favorites.

From around Christmas 2009.  Big Sister was almost 2.

At Breakfast with Santa, picture courtesy of Aunt Holly, of course.

I love that my husband is smiling.  And the kid is posing.  And the dog is creeping.

Warms my heart.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Wishing you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving.

What are you thankful for today?

I'm thankful I can to spend the day with these 2 faces!

I think Baby Sister's 'Cheeeeeese' face kind of looks like she is taking care of some other business in her britches...

Happy Birthday Aunt Holly!

Today is my sister in law's birthday!  She is definitely the sister I never had.  We met in college and played flag football and softball together.

So, happy birthday Holly!!!!!!!!!!

We are so thankful for you!  And all your do for us!!!
(And yeah, I totally borrowed pictures from your FB page.  Don't judge.  You are usually BEHIND the camera so I don't have many pics!)

We are lucky to have such a strong, Christian influence in our lives!  We are blessed to call you family.  We are lucky you haven't disowned us yet.

She and I think we can solve the world's problems!  She's my sounding board.  She's our photographer.  She's the crafty one of the family, by far.  She is always organizing things for our Sunday School class and for other things at church.

She's one of my best friends.  I can't say enough how precious you are to me and my family.

Thank you so much for being you.  Being real.  Keeping it real!

Tip Tuesday

Disclaimer:  I am no expert at anything, except NOT being at expert at anything. These tips are just something that have helped me, or someone else, or could help me, or you. That's my goal. I'm not all about the telling you what to do. So take them as you will.

Be thankful 365 (or 366) days of the year.

I'm thankful every single day I wake up breathing.  I'm thankful every day my family wakes up another day.  I'm thankful for healthy kids and parents and grandparents.

It's too easy to take life for granted.  Don't just be thankful for one month each year.  Tell people you are thankful for them!  Show them!

I am thankful that I am surrounded by so many friends and family that constantly challenge me, are there when I fall, lift me up in prayer, and for too many other reasons to list!

Thank you all!

Happy Birthday BGA!

When I got my first 'real' job after college, I met an awesome lady named Lisa.  I started work in June 2002.  (Yeah I'm old!)  This Lisa person took me under her wing and it was like we were meant to be best friends.

It just so happened that we did become best friends and back in June 2002, she was pregnant.

Fast forward to November 19, 2002.  The day her 2nd daughter was born.  I was at the hospital that same day!  I was so excited to meet my first Godchild!

Her name is Audrey and we have always and will always call her Baby Girl Audrey.  She's the sweetest and kindest soul you will ever meet!  I love her dearly and she will keep you in line.  She started out as a serious Daddy's girl but is super protective of her Mama!

I like to think I'm her favorite Aunt.  Well, at least her favorite Auntie E.  Although, I think she likes my hubby more, at times anyway!

That sweet girl turns 10 today.  Man, what an awesome young lady she turned into, almost overnight.

She's 2 whole hands old now.  Ok, BGA, you are allowed to stop growing and have no more birthdays.

I love you sweet girl!  Always stay protective of that mama you have and it's ok to be a Daddy's girl, sometimes!

One of my favorite pictures of all time.

15 Months

Today, Baby Sister is 15 months old.

This is her 'CHEEEEEESE' face.

Man, time is flying by.  I love this stage though.  Minus the BUSY at least 12 hours a day.  She is soooo independent, just like her Big Sister.  She rarely will hold your hand when walking.  She tries and tries to climb on stuff until she gets it.  She's a monkey that goes up and down and up and down and up and down.  She will sit still the longest if you either give her a book, crayon, or my shoes so she can put them on my feet and take them off about 20 times.

No kidding.  And she gets mad when she can't get them on.  She LOVES flip flops.  Which of course, we still wear year around usually.

Now for the boring stuff:

Diaper - Size 4

Weight -  23 pounds or so. We go for our 15 month check up after Thanksgiving so I will know then.  Our scale is broken so I can't weigh her at home.

Clothes - She is mostly wearing 18 month clothes, although some are still too big.  She can squeeze in a few 12 month things that are hand me downs because they are more for the cooler weather.  I did go buy her a few cold weather outfits last week.

Sleep - She still sleeps about the same.  The time change has not bothered her much.  She goes to bed usually around 7:30 every night and gets up anywhere from 6-7:30, depending on the day. She takes 1 good nap during the day at the sitter's and then sometimes in the afternoon or on the way home.  I am really lucky that she sleeps so well.  I sometimes wish I could sit and rock her every night, but she won't sit still long enough for that.  She want her cup and 'Raffie' (giraffe lovey) and she's OUT.  I am thankful because it allows me extra time with Big Sister for reading, spelling words, etc.

Teeth - Last week I was feeling in her mouth for a new tooth that was coming in on the top and I felt a MOLAR coming in.  Poor thing, she never complains.  So right now, she has 4 teeth on top with a few more that are starting to come in and 4 teeth on the bottom, with more coming in, including the big fat molar.

Activities - BUSY is the best way to describe her at this age.  Into everything!  She wants to do EVERYTHING her Big Sister does.  We are working on that with Big Sister too!

She loves to play peekaboo, especially after bathtime.  You can ask her if she wants some milk and she will shake her head yes.  She always wants milk.  She's a drinker.

She still LOVES the water.  Bath time is by far her favorite time of the day.  When she hears the water running, she takes off toward the tub!

Her vocabulary is getting larger and larger.  She can say BarBar (the sitter), Sissy, Sweat Pea (sitter's dog), Papaw (I think her fav word), Mama, Dadda, ball, teetee, book, paper, and a ton of others I can't think of right now.

She LOVES to dance.  Especially to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  The birthday party we went to last weekend was MM themed.  They played all the music from the show and she just danced and danced and danced.

She has perfected her 'fish face' and loves to give fish kisses.  Especially with her sister and they both giggle through it.  She can also curl her tongue, something some people still can't do.

She ADORES dogs.  Any dog really.  She loves to hug on them.  Luckily, our dog and the sitter's dog are pretty tolerable.  I could see it being a problem for a dog that doesn't know her.  She can also say DOOOOOOOOOOOGGGGG.  When she sees a dog, she says that.  When she sees anything Mississippi State related, she says it.  Yeah, we raise 'em right!

She is sooooo loving.  She will just walk up to you and hug on your legs.  She may be busy but she is always willing to give out some lovin'!  Especially to her sister, who I think gets more lovin' than any of us.  And my Dad.  They have a special bond.

She LOVES to be OUTSIDE.  She will go sit at our back door and just look outside and point.  We love going to my parent's house since it's out in the country and she can be outside all day long.  She will get up in her stroller that is inside and sit and wait until someone gets her and takes her strolling outside.

Eating - She is still not the best eater but I'm ok with it.  She eats most anything, just not a lot of it.  She will eat 3 bites of a chicken nugget and be done with it.  As long as she's got her milk, she's good.  She really only gets that at breakfast, nap, and bedtime.

I think that's it for this update!  Stay tuned for more stats next month.  We've been lucky and haven't been to the Dr. in a while.

Love Moves

Since I started blogging 2.5 years ago (Wait, what? Seriously??), I have started reading quite a few other blogs.  I call these people my 'friends' even though we have never met and they don't know me from Adam.

I did meet a fellow blogger this weekend who introduced herself to me saying that she read my blog but never wanted to say anything as to not feel like a stalker.  I'm the same way M!  So glad we talked!

One of the bloggers I have read for a long time, and have even read one of her books, is Angie Smith.  She is married to Todd, who is one of the lead singers of the Christian group, Selah.  They have a beautiful family with a bunch of girls!

She has a great story and is amazing with words and writing.  She's experienced great heartache and has found such a love for the Lord and serving.

This past week, she took her oldest daughters (red-headed twins!) on a Compassion mission trip to Peru.

I follow her on Twitter and Instagram too so I saw some of the pictures she posted.  (Ok, that does sound kind of stalkerish but it's borderline, right?)  I knew great things were happening on their trip.  So I've been praying for them.

She wrote this post and it is one of the most beautiful things I have ever read.  She really has a way with words and her and her girls have such a passion for people and the Lord.  I pray my daughters grow up to be great witnesses like hers!

Beware, I needed a tissue...

Typical Photo Shoot

I want to give a big shout out to all the photographers of little people out there.  Man, it's HARD to catch my busy kids!

This was a random Friday night at home.  We were watching (I think) Doc McStuffins on Disney Jr.  Baby Sister climbed up in my recliner with her sister because that's what she does.  Monkey see, monkey do.

It was so cute and sweet.  For 2 seconds.  By the time I got my phone to snap a few pics, it was back to busy already.

The last picture is my favorite.  I'm the little sister so I know what it's like to pester the older sibling.  My brother loves me for it.  And he and his friends did their fair share of pestering.  And practicing wrestling moves.  But hey, that's why I'm so tough!

I'm just happy my girls love each other enough to put up with the other even though the phrase of the week is "It's not fair."

Yeah, fun times!

Bailey Butterfly aka Turkey

Last week, one of our homework assignments was to disguise the provided paper turkey and write a few sentences on how said turkey would 'escape the farmer' so he wouldn't be eaten.

A few examples were a clown, football player, and something else that I can't remember.  My kid was DEAD SET on making hers a clown.

So I said ok.  She colored the turkey and gave him a red nose.  That was it.  After much convincing and showing her pics on the computer (what did our parents do when we were in school with no internet? Oops, I'm OLD. And NOT on Pinterest), she agreed to disguise the turkey as a butterfly.

I think it turned out pretty cute.  By the way, this was a 'family' homework project, meaning Mom can do most of the work.  I didn't do much but cut out the buttferfly wings and tape them on.  She colored and decorated it 100%.

This week they are supposed to discuss them and they will all be on display in their hallway.  Both kindergarten classes participated.

Maybe there will be a cool prize.  Because we are competitive like that.

Kidding.

Maybe...

Everyone is a winner!

So Bailey Butterfly, I hope you escaped the farmer and don't get eaten this Thanksgiving!

Picture Wednesday

Here are just a few more pictures from our vacation.

View from our front porch the first morning there.

This is on the Occee River.  I've been whitewater rafting here when I was in high school.  The 1996 Olympics (kayaking, etc.) were performed on this river. It was pretty cool to see it again.  Although, since it was October, they had the dam stopped so very little water trickled down.  They open it up on weekends.

 Still very pretty though!

The building there is Olympic Center or something.  We didn't go in.
