Word-filled Wednesday

In June, the hubby and I celebrated 10 years of marriage.  I decided that I wanted to take a kid-free anniversary trip to celebrate.  I saved money from our tax return and got everything scheduled around his vacation schedule.  We originally were going to go to London to see my friend Betsy and her husband.  Turns out they were going to be home in the states while we were planning to be across the pond!  Long story short, we researched cruises, Key West, Cabo, etc.  Man, things are expensive!

After losing my engagement ring, having to buy a generator after Isaac, and many other small things that add up, we decided a cheap trip would be best.

I have another friend that has a cabin in North Carolina at a little place called Bear Paw.  I asked if we could stay there for a week.  She obliged and it was set.

We were about 20 miles from the nearest 'town' which was Murphy, NC.  We were about 10 miles from the TN/NC line.

We set out last Monday, after dropping off the girls at school and the sitter's.  We took the scenic route and arrived at the cabin around 8 pm, Eastern time.  There is very little cell reception there and no Wi-Fi at our cabin (they had some at the pavilion just down the road though). I was totally fine with it (they had a land line) but the hubby was already having withdrawals.  I was able to call home every night to talk with Big Sister and my parents.  They had a big time.  Big Sister was learning to ride her bike without training without training wheels (which is HUGE for her) and she had a GREAT week at school!

Since there wasn't much to do other than relax, we watched movies, caught up on TV shows, and played Angry Birds.  Yeah, a lot of Angry Birds.  I had never played before and now I totally get the obsession.  Big Sister is pretty good at it so I knew it couldn't be that hard.  And it's not, just addictive!

Here are some pics around where we stayed.  I'm going to break up vacation into a few posts so as not to bore or overwhelm you.  I know you all are so interested.

We went to the movies, bowling, shopped, played, ate, and just hung out.

We had no responsibilities.  We didn't have to be anywhere at any special time.  Except for my spa appointment on Thursday.

Which, by the way, if you ever have the chance for an hour+ massage, do it.  Worth every penny.  So amazing.

We visited a few sites (I'll do another post on those) and did some outlet mall shopping, as well as Christmas and birthday shopping.

We made it home Saturday around 2 pm.  I went to pick up the kids around 3:30 and they were excited.  I was worried after a week with grandparents that they would forget me.  Nope, just changed so much in such a small amount of time.

All in all, we had some great adventures (I'm not allowed to navigate anymore) but we spent some quality time together as best friends, husband and wife.  I love my kids, but I miss that time together.

Stay tuned for other posts since I know inquiring minds want to know! ha!

Tip Tuesday

Disclaimer:  I am no expert at anything, except NOT being at expert at anything. These tips are just something that have helped me, or someone else, or could help me, or you. That's my goal. I'm not all about the telling you what to do. So take them as you will.

If you are a college football fan, or just a collegiate athletics fan, I applaud you.  We all know I am too.  And, I can give and take with the best of them. I'm a firm believer in if you can't take it, don't dish it.  I will say it to your face but no on social media.  This post is not about that. At all.

Here's your tip.  Think before you post.  This is my blog so I can post whatever I want.  Social media is different.

Yet another reason I can't look at FB anymore, especially on game days.

Maybe the whole #webelieve campaign got a big annoying to some but I sure enjoyed it.  It's been a long time since we believed in anything really.

Look, we all think our team is the best, no matter what.  I can tell you from being a Bulldog fan for 33 years (ouch), that my team is the best but sometimes the other team has a better day.  We might be 2-8 (yes, it has happened), but we still believed, just not as much!  It's called being a true fan.

So, just because you think your team is better, don't go posting stuff trashing other teams that don't happen to be your favorite.  I just don't get the stuff some people choose to post.

So think before pressing SEND.

Or maybe I should just quit all social media from August to January.

Happy Birthday Meme!

The hubby and I just got back from a kid-free vacation in the mountains.  More on that later.

Since we were gone, I missed writing a birthday post for my mother in law!

So Happy Birthday Melda!  We hope you had a great day yesterday!

We are so glad you are in our lives.  You are so giving and so loving to each and every person you meet.  I'm glad to say I have one heck of a mother in law when most people can't say that!

Here she is with all her grands.

Happy belated birthday Meme!  We love you BIG!

My sweet friend sent me this link last week.  It's a good read but here's my favorite one!  A great tip for anybody!

Gratitude is powerful.
Learning to be grateful for what we already have will not only make us happier, but will also open the door for more to come into our lives. Say thank you. Write personal notes. Take inventory of the thousands of tiny pieces of your life made possible by friends, family, neighbors, co-workers and members of your community. And be grateful for it.

Giveaway Reminder!

This post is sponsored by

Once again, it's time to plan for my Christmas card.  We have already scheduled a time to take our family pictures.  I know, it's early.  But it's easier to plan while the hubby's on vacation then to plan around his work schedule!

I'm one of those that looks over the selection of cards before taking our pics.  Mostly to get ideas of what will look good as a background for my pics.  That way, we can determine WHERE we are going to take the pictures.

Last year, I found some great cards that had pictures of families with water in the background and it gave me a GREAT idea to have pics taken at the pond at my parents' house.

This year, Shutterfly's selection is amazing once again.  From traditional colors and embellishments to merry and bright colors that take on a modern feel, they also feature religious/scripture based cards (including Hanukkah) and cards that you can showcase your fur babies photos on.  Whatever your style is, I'm sure they have something you’ll love.

They have also added a feature where customers can review the products so you can read the comments to help make your decision on which card works best for you!

Shutterfly offers so many specials all the time!  I can load a bunch of pics or be in need of some invitations and know that as soon as I get ready to order, they will send me an email with some special offer!

Here are a few of the cards I really like for this year!

I based last year's Christmas card pic on this family and background!

I like the more traditional, religious cards, especially that shows the meaning of Christmas.  It's not just about showing off your family, it's about celebrating the birth of our Savior!  You know all your friends and family want to see the pictures of how big your kids are now, but it's another way to share your beliefs with them!

Now for the FUN part!!

If anyone is interested, comment on this post by October 29th for a chance to win a giveaway of $50 off your total order (does not include shipping & cannot be combined with any other promos) from Shutterfly!  That will help you this Christmas!

Shutterfly is also on the up and up of social media.

Music Friday

A little less than a year ago, I began listening to this band that I thought was a Christian group.  So I added them as a Pandora station.  Then some non-Christian bands were 'similar artists'.

Long story short, they are a Christian band but have made it in the contemporary scene.

They are called NEEDTOBREATHE and they are some amazing musicians.  They have opened for Taylor Swift and been on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno!

I decided if they ever came close to my hometown for a concert that I would go see them.  Lo and behold, they are now headlining their own tour!  And, just so happened to be stopping in a town about an hour away from me.

They are awesome musicians from South Carolina who just happened to be named Bear and Bo (Bryant), both after Bear Bryant.

Sooooo....

Happy birthday to me.  I found someone to go with me and bought the tickets in July or August.  My birthday was in September but the concert was last Friday night.

I will say one thing! FABULOUS.

My sweet friend Matthew and his mom were my dates!
Opening band, Parachute

I love this one

I think this was at the beginning of their encore, all of them singing with just the guitar!

Brothers, Bo and Bear, playing. AMAZING!

The Reckoning Tour

The bass player and keyboard player came out and played drums at one point.

For the last song or so, the guy that played as the opener to the opening band (Drew Holcomb, who was awesome too) came back and played with them.

I'm so glad I had the opportunity to see them.  They are so humble and all of them are awesome musicians.  One.Amazing.Show.

13 and 14 Months

I totally forgot to do a post when Baby Sister turned 13 months old.  So I'll combine it with this one.

Today, Baby Girl turns 14 months old!!!  Wow!

We are super busy around our house these days.  Between church, homework, soccer, etc. we stay busy!  My girls still adore each other and are (usually) super sweet to each other.  Baby Sister did a face plant on the concrete at my parents' house a while back and I think it upset her Big Sister more so than her!

Now for the boring stuff:

Diaper - Size 4

Weight -  22 pounds or so.  The last time we went to the Dr. was a few weeks ago and I don't even remember her weight. I know, sad.  I think it was 22 pounds.

Clothes - She can still wear some 12 month clothes but we are gradually moving to 18 months, mainly because the majority of 18 month stuff is for warm weather (hello, Big Sister was 18 months IN THE SUMMER).  Since it's still fairly warm, I can get away with it.  We might be in real trouble when it gets really cold. I think she has 3 outfits to wear then.  We'll just wear a jacket with all our short sleeve stuff!

Sleep - She goes to bed usually between 7:30 and 8 every night and gets up anywhere from 6-7:30, depending on the day. She takes 1 good nap during the day at the sitter's and then sometimes in the afternoon or on the way home.

Teeth - She has 3 teeth on top and 4 on bottom.  She got the first ones pretty quick and then stalled on the rest.  She's the total opposite of her sister that waited longer to get her 1st tooth but then got them all at once.  And she always got them at least 2 at a time.  They don't seem to be bothering her so I'm fine with it.  She does sometime wake up in the middle of the night for seemingly no reason so maybe they do bother her, but she takes some tylenol and goes back to sleep.

Activities - She talks a good bit these days.  She says Mama and Papaw all the time.  She waves to Big Sister when she gets on the bus or out of the car and blows kisses while saying BYE BYE!  She communicates well to be so young.  She can pretty much tell you what she wants by pointing or shaking or nodding her head.  And, she is BUSY.  She's into everything.  She likes to get in my cabinets and she knows the ones we don't have child-proofed.  She likes to stack things and throw things away.  BUSY BUSY BUSY!

She still LOVES the water.  Bath time is by far her favorite time of the day.  When she hears the water running, she takes off toward the tub!  She tries to climb in the tub too.  Once in the tub, she tries to 'swim' up and down the tub.  It's fun but exhausting getting her actually bathed.  I think she's going to have to take swimming lessons next summer when Big Sister takes them again!

Eating - She is not the best eater but that's ok!  She's growing just fine!  She likes green beans, french fries, chicken nuggets, and bananas.  She likes to drink milk but I only let her at naptime and bedtime.

Ok, that's all for an update!  We are enjoying every moment of this busy stage of life.  Although, it does make time fly even faster.

Wordless Wednesday

Just to show some of the silliness at our house a daily basis.  This was Sunday, after church.

Here she was watching Ellen and learning to dance Gangham style. She LOVES it.  Too funny!

I quote, "Mama, look at my big tooth. Take a picture now."

Thanks for all the school lunch suggestions.  While some were a little 'crunchy' (if you know what I mean), some were good ideas.

My cousin told me about something called Biscoff that is made from graham crackers. I think that's what they serve on Delta flights?  I told my mom about it and the next day, she got this.

So far the kiddo really likes it.  I am not a big fan but that doesn't matter.  She ate this mixed with jelly on Saturday for lunch.  Then ate some on a piece of toast Sunday morning.  She did not want to take it to school until I had gotten the ok from the principal (which I got yesterday!).

They have a great website where you can view the ingredients and calories, etc.  They have an entire campaign on becoming a nut-free school, etc.

They even give you labels (that come with the jar) that you can put on the sandwich bag in case anyone questions you.

We'll see how long it lasts.

Comparisons

Let's compare.

Baby Sister August 2012
Big Sister August 2007
Big Sister January 2008
Baby Sister October 2012
In the bottom 2 pics, both girls have on the same dress, made by my sis in law's talented mother!  They are both 1 year old in these pics.  Sorry the bottom one is blurry, that child never stops.  I think Baby Sister is going to be even taller than her sister.  That same dress is WAY too short for her when it fits Big Sister perfectly when she was the same age.

I see so many similarities, yet so many differences.  They are both unique in their own way.  They STILL adore each other, for now.  Big Sister has taken her role on completely.  She doens't (always) like to share, but she's always checking on her to see what's wrong when she cries.  Baby Sister face planted on some concrete at my parent's house one day and Big Sister was beside herself with wanting to know if she was ok!  They were both fine after a few minutes.

Although both of my girls challenge me in different ways, they are such a blessing.  They are both so full of energy and rarely stop to do anything.  When the crash, they crash hard!

I'm so thankful God chose me as their Mom!
