Victory!

Today is a good day!  The last day of the month.  Plus, we all slept last night.  Ah, sweet sleep.  I miss it.

This month, I have been trying to get better at not weighing myself every single day.  That only stresses me out.

So, for the month of January, I seemed to fall off the wagon a bit.  With birthdays and sleep deprivation, it was a lot harder for me to stay focused.

But, I'm happy to report that I lost another 3.5 pounds this month.  No one realizes the significance of this number but me.

I AM BACK TO MY PRE-PREGNANCY WEIGHT!  Granted that number is a not a very desirable one, but I knew I had to at least get back to it at some point in order to pass it.

So starting next month, it will all be true weight loss.  I can't wait!

This month I had to get a little more creative and throw in some workouts.  I know you can lose weight without doing any exercise but it helps when you throw in some cardio.  I was tired of listening to myself say I didn't have time.

So what did I do?

For starters, lifting a 15-16 pound baby is a good workout. I lift her like she's weights and she LOVES it.

I've also started to use my new crock pot my sis in law gave me for Christmas (thanks Holly!).  On Sundays, I cook something in it, knowing we can eat off that for a few days.  If for some reason that doesn't happen, we eat sandwiches on Monday night and I cook something in the crock pot for the next night.  It's a pretty good system.  I'm still trying out some new recipes.  Some are ok, some are not. Some are not real healthy, but it's better than frozen pizza. I can portion it out and only eat a certain amount.

Since the food (supper) is already cooked and all we have to do is heat it up, Big Sister and I can play Just Dance on the Wii.  Talk about cardio?  Whew. Workout.  They have an option to Just Sweat that tracks your progress.  So a few nights a week, we dance to 4 songs.  She picks 2 and I pick 2.  Baby Sister thinks we are the funniest thing ever.  And, we probably are! But it's burning calories.

I've also gotten better about going to the gym or the park to fun during my lunch break.  I also use my break to run errands so I have to spend my time wisely.

So, now I am going to start counting toward my final goal.

Starting Feb. 1, I have 38.5 pounds to lose. So far, I've lost 40+ but that includes a 7 pound, 7 ounce kid.

That's a tough hill to climb but I know I can do it.  Just encourage me when you can. I believe in putting it in writing and I know you all will hold me accountable!  And, call me out too! I may not like it but it's helpful.

Plus it helps when your hubby compliments your outfit and tells you that your looking good in your jeans.

Sure Sign

I've known for a long time that I am slowly losing my mind.  You know, everyone says you temporarily lose it when you are pregnant. I agree.  But, it comes back.  Usually.  My brain usually works quite well, until you take more sleep away from me.  The less sleep I have, the crazier I get.  Typical right?

Well, this week I have been reminded twice that I'm sleep deprived and have a padded cell on the list of things to request next week.

2 sure signs I'm losing my mind:

Since the hubby is working the shutdown at work and is on 12 hour shifts, we don't see much of each other. Which also leads me to do all things child related.  I was trying to be super nice the other night since I know he's working so hard.  He was out of tea and I knew he would want some when he came home that next morning.  So I poured the water in the pot and added the bags.  I made sure it was plugged in (since I unplug it to plug up my crock pot that is getting tons of use) and turned it on.  I started working on supper and turned back a few minutes later, only to see that I had forgotten to put the pitcher in it's place.  Thus, leaving my countertop full of tea that had no place to go!  YIKES. I grabbed some paper towels and put the pitcher where it needed to be.

Strike 1

Yesterday, I didn't take a lunch break at work so I could leave a little early.  We had been warned earlier in the day that the cops were out in full force around the office.  As I was about to pull out of the parking lot, I saw a cop turning around to pull someone else over.  When I finally got in the road, I called the office to report that they were very close to us.  I guess I shouldn't talk on the phone and drive.  I went to pick up Baby Sister from the sitter's house, which is just down the road from my office.  I walked in and told her that the police were all out and about.  Then I turned around to get the bag and it was not there.  When I asked her where it was, she said, "There is no baby here today."

DOH!  She only keeps her 3 days a week and my parents keep her 2 days a week.  This was my mom's day. She was meeting me at Big Sister's school, also down the road.

At least I didn't forget her and leave her somewhere.  Yet.

Strike 2

Lord help me. I should not admit these things.

16 years

The hubby and I met in (or around) Dec. of 1993.  We have 2 different junior high and high schools in our town.  He went to one and I went to the other.  We had quite a few mutual friends and we both played Jr. high basketball.  We 'formally' met one night after a basketball game.  I was smitten from the beginning.  He was hot. I was 14.  Who cared?

We 'went out' on a first date to a friend's house (thanks Rob!) shortly thereafter.  I then invited him to our Valentine Dance.  Man, if I showed you the picture from that, you would not believe it.

We only dated for about a month in Jr. high and then moved on.  In high school, we both played soccer for different schools.  We saw each other at a tournament in 1996.  We spoke but I knew he had a girlfriend so I thought that was the end of it.  Luckily, I was wrong.  We talked for a while that day and the days after.  He eventually broke up with this girlfriend and we started hanging out.

On this day in 1996, we officially started dating.  Man, such a long time ago.  16 years.  Whew.

I never thought we would last this long plus have 2 beautiful little girls.  Most marriages don't last this long.

So we've been together for 16 years.  Literally, half my life has been spent with him.  I'm 32 peeps.  Hard to believe.  We've been married for almost 10 years.  Another wow.

I'm blessed to have him in my life.  Yes, he aggravates the heck out of me sometimes and he's lazy (he's agrees) but we work.  It's not always easy but for us, it works.  I think some people give up on marriages too quickly because divorce is the easier thing to do.  We have to make it work, but who doesn't?  I never realized just how much of a strain kids add to a marriage.  Luckily, I see it and know I can't change everything.

We've been through a lot together.  Deaths, marriages, divorces (friends and family, not ours), a miscarriage, births of 2 healthy and happy girls, vacations, trips, friends, and much much more.

Yes, I complain about him.  I don't meet all his needs and vice versa.  But, what marriage is perfect?

We love each other unconditionally and that's truly what matters.  I am blessed.  And looking forward to many many many more years together.

1996, just wow. Look at all that hair. His, not mine or Beth's!

My 5 Year Old

Big Sister had her 5 year old check up and physical yesterday.  Yes, the dreaded school shots go with this visit.  We've been talking about it for weeks so she would be prepared in knowing what was going to happen.

I was soooo impressed by how well she did with the shots.  After chatting it up with the nurse (whom we LOVE) and Dr. Fairchild (whom we LOVE), she knew it was coming.  The nurse talked her through it all and she took it like a CHAMP.  She only cried with the 4th (and last) shot because it burns a little going in.  She was promptly given like 6 stickers and was deciding who to share them with.  We then had to go to the lab and get her finger pricked to check all her levels.  That girl did not even flinch!  She said it hurt when the lady was squeezing her finger to get the blood out.  She was promptly given 2 Cars stickers, one with Lightning McQueen and one with Finn McMissile. Both of which she said she was giving to cousin Blake because 'he LOVES Cars.'

Now for the boring stats.

My big girl is THICK. She weighed 56.2 pounds yesterday.  She is not fat but she is thick.

She is 46 1/2 inches tall. That put her ABOVE the 90th percentile.  Literally, off the chart as the Dr. showed me!  She's thick and tall.

Her vocabulary is above where it should be.  I swear, she talks NON STOP.  But hey, she's me so what can I say?

Everything else looked good.  We are super blessed that we have not had to see the Dr. since her 4 year old check up.  Not sure how that happened but very grateful for that, especially since I've been to the pediatrician's office twice this week, once with each kid.  We are very lucky to have a good immune system.

After all was said and done, I took her to get ice cream. I had promised if she did good, that would be her reward. After how good she did, I was willing to get her pretty much whatever she wanted.

So vanilla ice cream with sprinkles it was, until she saw the chocolate coins and wanted those. Yep, I got them too.  And yes, I fixed her hair before we left home yesterday morning.  She then put on a hat and that was the end of her cute hair.

She's so excited that when sister has her 1st birthday, it will be time for 'Big School' for her.  She has no idea what's in store for her in kindergarten but Miss Melanie has done well getting her ready.

A whole new world starts in August.  Let the journey begin.

5 Months

Baby girl is turned 5 months old yesterday.

 Twins, separated by 5 years

I say this every month but it's still true.  These 2 girls still ADORE each other. My mom laughed after Big Sister's party this weekend when Baby Sister just looks at Sissy and laughs. I mean, cackles.  She's the one that can make everything better.  Except when I have a bottle in my hand! I hope they continue to be best friends for a long time.

We are seriously sleep deprived at our house right now.  The past few nights were exceptionally rough.  I got 3 hours of sleep one night and then we were up every hour the next night.  It's almost like she's a newborn again.  Except now I have to go to work 8 hours a day, with no nap.  I'm exhausted.  The combination of teething and rolling over are constantly waking her at night. She will NOT sleep on her back.  It's ok, the Dr. knows it.  Since she drools so much and chews on her hands, feet, etc. she now has some ulcers in her mouth.  All you can do is Tylenol every 4 hours and keep her hands clean and dry. Yeah right.

Any prayers for some sleep would be appreciated.  I know that sounds so not important but to me it is.  There are big problems in this world that deserve your prayers but I would covet just a couple.  And it's shutdown time for the hubby so he works 12 hour shifts for 2-3 weeks straight.

Now for the even more boring stuff:

Diaper - Size 2 but will move up to 3 when we run out of this size.

Weight - 15 pounds, 4 ounces

Clothes - She can still stuff into a few 3-6 month clothes but mostly all she wears now are 6 month stuff.

Activities - She's sooooo busy already.  She kicks like she's running a marathon. She rolls and rolls and rolls and rolls.  She chews and gnaws and chews on fingers, toys, toys, my hair, and anything she can get her hands on.  She's also gotten really vocal lately.  She only does her high pitched squeal when she's hungry and you aren't paying attention to her.  As long as she's fed, changed, rested, and burped, she's usually pretty happy.  She does like to talk though. She carries on a conversation with us yet we have NO idea what she says. Sissy and I are coaching her to say Mama and Sissy first. Daddy swears she's said Dada already but there were no witnesses so it can't be true!

Eating - She takes a 6 ounce bottle every 3 hours or so, except at night. She takes an 8 ounce bottle with cereal in it at night.  After Christmas, we introduced solids.  She's eating stage 1 applesauce, bananas, pears, peaches, mango, peas, sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans, squash and I think that's all we've tried so far.  She seems to like them all.  She really like the mango, surprisingly!  I bought some stage 2 the other day of mixed fruits, etc. so we'll see how she handles those pretty soon.

We also had our 1st sickness this past month.  A few days before Christmas, she started coughing.  Big Sister has had the croup quite a few times so I know what to listen for. When she started 'barking' one night, I immediately called the Dr's office since I didn't want to spend Christmas holidays with a sick baby.  We got a shot and our 1st antibiotic.  She felt puny for 1 day and then was much better, although it took the full 10 days of antibiotic to fully get over it all.

Ok, that's all for the boring stuff.  Looking forward to another great month.  Big Sister started crawling at 6 months so I'm wondering if that will be the case this time too!  We shall see.

PS - Happy birthday Carrie!  29 never looked better.  Hope you are well and resting!

Party!

This weekend, we celebrated the kiddo's 5th birthday by having a swim party!  In January!  One of our YMCAs has an indoor swimming pool.  Since Baby Sister's birthday is in August and will likely have more swim parties, we decided that this year would be Big Sister's year of the swim party!  She had a great time and is always in RARE form when it's actually all about her.

Whew, my sweet 5 year old tornado.

She chose a monkey them this year and I'm not good with doing the whole 'themed' birthday for her. Since it's right after Christmas, it almost gets lost in the hustle and bustle.

This was part of the invitation from Snapfish.

Once again this year, she chose to forgo presents for her and collect books and puzzle for the kids at Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital.  I am one proud Mama!  We filled this entire box with soooo much stuff for the kids.  She even decorated the box and a colored a picture to go in the box.  She has such a sweet giving spirit!

Now for party pictures!

Cousin Hayes showing off his cannonball!

 Buddies swimming

 They were all little fish!

Uncle Josh took one for the team and got in with Blake and Bradley.  Blake sure has come a long way since this summer with his swimming!
Whitt, checking out the ladies!

When she turned 2, she freaked out when everyone started singing Happy Birthday. Not this year. She TOLD them to start singing.
Miss Bossy Pants.

She LOVED her monkey cake! My friend Susan made it and you can check out her blog here.

We all had a great time. The YMCA was wonderful and provided almost everything but the cake and ice cream!  Best $100 I ever spent!

Thanks to everyone who came! I wish we could have invited everyone!

Happy Birthday Papaw!

Well, another year has passed and my sweet Daddy is turning another year older.

This past year has been pretty great with the addition of yet another grandchild and the fact that is now officially RETIRED.  He's enjoying staying home with my mom (not sure if she feels the same - ha!).  Since Mom keeps baby sister 2 days a week, my dad gets to help her.  My sweet baby adores him, I think more than any of the other grands did at this age.

But the truth of the matter is that all the grandkids adore him. He's like a kid himself and he has cool stuff like a 4 wheeler (now with doors) and shoot houses and dogs and lots of land to go on 'adventures' and the list goes on.

So happy birthday old man!  We sure do love you.  I know my oldest would spend every moment with you if she could.  She's got so much energy that can easily work on the nerves but she has such a good heart for you!

Wishing you many, many, many more birthdays.  Thank you for all you do for us.

Differences or Similarities?

So, what do you think?  Do they really look alike or not?  I think they do. Baby sister does not have the same amount of hair and hers was darker. I guess we will see the older they get.

They sure do love each other though!

How Great Is Our God

I absolutely love Chris Tomlin. He is a beautiful song writer and really has a heart for reaching people.

I heard this song before Christmas and it is so powerful! Absolutely amazing.
No matter what language you speak, our God is great! It brings tears to me eyes when I listen to this song. Chill bumps. Awesome! My heart will sing! How great is our God! Name above all names!

Enjoy!

Then to end how they put it all together (if anyone cares) is pretty cool.

Time

When did this happen?
My BABY is 5. Sigh.

Can we please stop time?

Happy Birthday to a certain 5 YEAR OLD!

Ok, I'm totally in denial that just 5 short years ago today, I gave birth to a sweet 6 pound, 11 ounce baby girl 3 weeks early.
Bless her heart.  She can be soooo sweet one second and soooo evil the next second. Drama. Ok, maybe evil isn't the right word. Um, unkind.

But I wouldn't have it any other way!

Happy 5th birthday to my sweet angel.
I love the way she covers her mouth with her hand when she giggles like it's a BIG OLE secret.

I love love love the way she ADORES her baby sister.  The feeling is mutual no doubt. At least for now.

I love her sweet innocent spirit.  She's soooo inquisitive.  I love the things she says.  I hate I can't remember each one. I need a recorder permanently ON!

I love that she's shy in the beginning but will SHOW OUT after about 2 minutes. She's cautiously fearless.  Sometimes it scares me for what will come later in life.
I LOVE that she loves her God, her church, her people.  No one better mess with her sister or she will take you down. Not kidding.

I love that she tells me she will always be my baby, even when she's dead. Yep, direct quote practically.

I love the fact that she doesn't throw quite as many fits as she used to.  She's maturing and I can see it.  That said, if she doesn't get enough sleep, she's grumpy like her Daddy.

I love the fact that she's my little buddy and wants to go everywhere with me. She calls me her 'sweet little mama.' That is, until I tell her no and then she turns on me and says I won't let her do anything. OH THE DRAMA.

I love that she's (mostly) my good helper.  Since Daddy works such AWFUL hours, it's nice to have some extra hands, even though they can't do everything.  She takes (usually) great pride on helping.

I love that she loves her friends so much that they fight like sisters. Literally, fight. And proclaim about every other hour that they are no longer each other's best friend. Only to go back to normal in 5 seconds flat. I am sad she will be separated from said friends when kindergarten (OH MY WORD, did I just write that?) starts in August.  Never fear, there is always soccer.
The Three Amigos last soccer season - FIERCE
Speaking of soccer, I was sure we were done when she informed me she was ready for the season to start.  I love that she doesn't have to score the most goals on her team and is a great cheerleader.  Great team builder she is!

So here we are 5 years after that wonderful day in 2007.  We've come a long way.  The hubby and I had NO idea how to take care of a baby and now we have 2!  I'm so glad she's taken on her big sister role with gusto!

Ok, I've gone on enough on what I love about her!

So happy birthday kiddo!  Daddy and Sissy and I love you BERRY MUCH!  Forever and ever and always!

Whew, will I be this emotional for every birthday?

January 9, 2012

Happy Monday!

I am happy to report on this foggy Monday that I am FINALLY BACK IN MY OLD JEANS!  Well, not the really old ones but at least the pre-pregnancy ones.  Thank heavens!  After almost 5 months of hard work, I'm back! And not stopping.

Have a beautiful week!

January 3, 2012

3.5

So, in the month of December, I lost 3.5 pounds.  Still doesn't sound like much but I'll take it since it was over the holidays and I allowed myself a bit more.

Now, it's back to the grind. Calorie counting everything. Portion control everything. Must.get.back.to.running.

Now, if only I could figure out how and when to add in a little exercise, that would be great. We did take a COLD walk around the neighborhood Sunday afternoon. I strapped on baby girl and big sister rode her bike.

I really need to start playing our new Just Dance 3 game for 10 minutes a day and that will help. Just stopping long enough for that is a stretch.

My goal for this year (resolution wise) is not all about weight loss. But I will put that goal out there. I am hoping to lose 6 pounds each month until I hit my weight loss goal. Only 42 more pounds to go. That gives me 7 months. If I make it, great. If not, I keep trying.

Wow, now it's all in writing so I have to stick to it, right?

Next goal, try not to stress about it.  Easier said that done.
