Checking In

Can someone tell me if there is a benefit to this 'Checking In' stuff on Facebook?  It's kind of annoying to see that someone checked in to their bed, or home, or the movies.

Really?

I think I will come by your house while you are enjoying that movie and steal your stuff.  Or harass your babysitter.  I hope you enjoy that movie!

Sorry, I just don't get it.  I really don't need for my 900 friends to know when I go the grocery store, or a restaurant, or HOME.

I just don't get it......

A Legend

Being the lover of all things Mississippi State, it's only fitting that I mention that today is the end of an era for all MSU fans.

The legendary voice of the Bulldogs, Jack Cristil, is retiring.  I've listened to him on the radio for MANY years.  Heck, he's been announcing for MSU for 58 years!  Longer than both our head football and basketball coaches have been alive!
Photo from Clarion Ledger
We all knew this day would come.  We just chose not to believe it!  I mean, he's 85!  How many people can say they are STILL doing what they LOVE at 85?  Most people don't even live that long!

I wish him well, as he's retiring at the advice of his physicians and will start kidney dialysis next week.  Today, he will broadcast his last MSU game, a basketball game versus Tennessee, where strangely, he first coined his signature slogan, "You can wrap this one in MAROON AND WHITE."

One of my all-time favorite lines of his was after MSU lost a miserable game to MAINE.  Yes, the Maine Black Bears.

He said, "The Sonic drive of the game will be my drive back to Tupelo."  Classic.

He's not your ordinary announcer.  He tells it like it is.  There is no fluff.  All business.  Although, the older he gets, the more ornery he was getting.   I remember listening to one football game a few years ago and he was blasting the play calling by MSU coaches.  Although, I was surprised to hear him say it, it was what we were ALL thinking!

Between he and Jim Ellis, they have ruined me.  I can't listen to any other announcers.  Like the guy who announces for Alabama.  Eli Gold.  Man, I am sure he is nice, but he's terrible. He gets excited and gets all high pitched and screams.

Here's how it's done.  MSU upsetting Florida this past season.  Go Dawgs!

Thank you for the memories!  I get all teary-eyed every single time I watch or listen to one of these clips!

My Saturdays during football season will never be the same as I tune in for an away game that's not televised.  Not hearing that raspy, unique voice will be hard.  Jim Ellis does a great job but it won't be the same.

Here's to wishing you well with your treatments so you can frequent MSU sporting events soon!

This

I stumbled across this video on Facebook the other day.  I'm a big fan of Darius Rucker.  I loved him when he was with Hootie and the Blowfish.  And even more now that he's singing country on his own.  I love his unique voice!  His songs are about real-life issues and have a great meaning.  Here is another example.  Enjoy.

TMI

This is probably way too much information for my 4 readers but I'm tired.  Tired of going potty ALL the time.

I worked 9 hours Tuesday.  And in that 9 hours, I went to the potty 10 times.  Really?  Yes.  A little ridiculous.  It's all for a good cause and I know it will get worse, but geez.  I get tired of using the same bathroom so I have to switch it up a bit.  Thankfully, we have 3 bathrooms I can alternate between.

Plus I drink a lot of water.  I always have and hopefully always will.  Just adds to my problem though.

When I hit double digits, I decided it was time to go home.

Oh the joys.  Sorry for the venting.  It's what I wanted, right?  Oh, and I won't even start to mention how many times I go at night while normal people are sleeping...

Aren't you glad you are a reader of Keeping It Real???

GNO

I had a wonderful and much needed Girl's Night Out last night.  I had dinner with some sorority sisters of mine.  My oh my how our conversations have changed over the years.  We've gone from talking about boys and dating and marriage to babies and all things associated with that.  We laughed and laughed and it was very nice.  I think we might have been the loudest ones at the restaurant.  We (or I) ate too much and still had leftovers!

It's nice to sometimes step away and just laugh.  Try it and you'll see.

Soccer

This weekend was the kiddo's 1st soccer game!  She was so excited for her first practice last week and her game.  Despite a major meltdown before the game and her claiming she didn't want to play soccer, it went pretty well.  According to what she told her Aunt Mar, she scored 28,000 goals.  And Daddy promised to pay her $1 for each goal. ha!  Now we are really broke.  Nah, he only paid her $1 and it was because toward the end of the game, she helped a teammate score (he hadn't scored yet) instead of trying to take the ball away and score herself.

I had mixed emotions going to the first game.  Both the hubby and I played soccer for at least 15 years each.  We have a lot of soccer history.  I've won state championships in high school soccer.  We've both played in (and won) state tourneys and regionals.  Needless to say, soccer was our lives for many years.  And our families.

My mixed emotions came early Saturday morning when I realized it was no longer be as the player, but as the soccer mom.  I am cool with being the soccer mom.  I guess it was the fact that it's no longer all about me.  Not that it EVER was but you understand.  I have to be the one now to remember the suscreen (which I forgot Sat. and it was 80 degrees and yes, we all got some sun!), the ball, the jersey, etc.  I'm not used to this.  But it's my new reality so I guess I will get used to it.

The game itself was pure entertainment.  One boy got soooo mad when the other team scored (which they didn't often, we are stacked!).  My dad said it was the most entertaining soccer game he's ever watched and he's seen a TON.  I didn't start playing until I was 7 so we were slightly better.

It was a beautiful day and fun was had by all.  Now for the pics of the stars.

Mamma Mia!

Tuesday night, my Mom and I went to see Mamma Mia!  We had the BEST time.  It is easily in my top 5 now.  I've seen the movie but seeing it LIVE is so much better.  The cast really seemed like they had a great time!  They even came back out at the end and sang Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen, and one other.  Even the guys dressed up.  It was so much fun.  I did almost fall asleep toward the end where it gets really slow but found some candy in my purse to get some sugar in my blood! ha!  We got home late but it was so worth it.

And now, I can't stop singing a few songs.  I even downloaded 3 from the Mamma Mia soundtrack on iTunes Wed.!

Enjoy the clip promoting the show.  The actors were great!
If you have not seen it, I encourage you to at least watch the movie.  Both shows here were sold out!

Happy birthday to our favorite photographer!

Happy happy birthday to the person who helps us most remember every single moment in our lives.  Why, our photographer!

Happy birthday Aunt Ollie Jean!  We love you very very much and we hope you have an awesome day.

And thanks for always being the one behind the camera to capture every precious moment of my kiddo's life.  From literally day 1!!!

So now, we've got you a few times on the other side of the camera.   It's not often!

So happy birthday to a beautiful person on the inside and outside!  We love you!  Have a great birthday.

Happy birthday to my BFF!

I know everyone has heard me talk about my best friend Lisa.  Today is her birthday.  She's turning 29, again.
Lisa and Bob

Lisa and I met at my first 'real' job after college.  I had just gotten married and she was pregnant with my Goddaughter.  We became fast friends.  And believe me when I say opposites attract.  We can finish each other's sentences but we like different things.  We've said many times before, "And how are we friends?"

Lisa and 1st born sweet Pres

Although she's just a few years older than me, you would never know it.  She loves my family like her own and vice versa.  She's our home away from home in my beloved Starkville.  She always lets me crash on her couch.  She's so thoughtful and I love her!

The 4 of us at Flora Bama

So Lisa Mc, happy birthday.  Enjoy your day.  Enjoy your shirt and wear it with pride!  I hate we aren't with you to celebrate this year!  We've have to plan a trip for next year!

With one of her FAV people
I love you Lisa Mc!  Have a happy happy birthday.  And I hope you get your tickets!!!

12

Today marks 12 weeks for kiddo #2.  I had a Dr. appt yesterday and everything looked great   Blood pressure was normal and so far I've gained 2 pounds, which is not terrible because I have room to spare.  My Dr. wanted to see if he could hear the heartbeat on the Doppler instead of doing an ultrasound.  We got to hear it and it was very strong.  He said, "I don't want to jinx anything but hearing the heartbeat on the Doppler at 12 weeks is pretty much a slam dunk."

I'll take it.

Now, if I could just get some sleep.  That's the only issue I have.  I can't sleep longer than 3-4 hours without having to get up to go potty.  It's frustrating and I'm flat out tired.  But, it's all for a good cause, right?

I still can't believe it's already been 12 weeks.  Wow.

Emails I've Been Getting...

Hey, E-Harmony, I think you must be great, but I don't need your services.  Please quit emailing about 'opportunities.'  I've been married for almost 9 years and with the same man for 15 years.  We didn't need you then and we don't need you know.

Thanks.

This is the Stuff...

After a rough couple of weeks, this song really brings me back to reality!

The artist is Francesca Battistelli and she is one of my favorite fairly new Christian artists.  I love this video because it's so real and shows how talented she is!  The song is called, 'This is the Stuff.'  She also sings another of my favorite songs, 'Free To Be Me.'

Enjoy!  And remember in the middle of your mess, remember just how big you're blessed!

Allowance

Do any of you out there with younger kids do allowance?  If so what age did you start and how much per week did you give?  Also, what all chores were included in order for them to receive the allowance?

We started, or the hubby did, giving kiddo an allowance every Friday if she keeps her room clean each night and feeds the dogs when they are out of food and water.  I just think he's paying too much.  She would be happy with $1 but he's paying $5.  Is that too much?  Not enough?

Tough life issues here people!

Whew!

What a week this has been!

Poor kiddo got sick Tuesday night and ended up with what I assume is the stomach bug.  She got sick at school and spent Wed. with my Mom.  Then the past 2 days, hubby has been off and being Mr. Mom.  Which he's done pretty well.

As most of you probably (or unfortunately) know, the stomach bug comes with lots of puke and sometimes poop.  We've had both.  Which normally doesn't bother me.  When you become a parent, you know that you will, at some point in your life, end up with puke or poop somewhere on your body.  I think that was maybe day 5 with the kiddo.  But, it's almost expected.

Like I said, normally things like that don't bother me.  Since I'm pregnant, it's different.  Thankfully, the hubby has been super extra wonderful and has handled most of the bodily fluids while I do the loving and caretaker role.

Last night around 1 am, the kiddo had a HORRIBLE nose bleed.  The worst one she has ever had.  I was asleep but hubby was still awake.  She walked in his room and announced that her nose was bleeding, which it does from time to time at night.  When he looked at her, he noticed it was an ordinary nosebleed.  It was a bad one.  He took her to the kitchen and that's when I heard them.  When I came out, I was terrified.  There was blood everywhere.  In her mouth, on her clothes, and coming out of her nose so fast that I thought something was really wrong.  After a few minutes of trying to stop it and the hubby and I yelling at each other, I felt it.  That wave of nausea that comes over you and sends you into a cold sweat.  I told him to take over and I went to the living room and sat down.  Luckily, after a few minutes I was fine.

The hubby says, "Scared of blood all the sudden?"

No, I think it was just the situation.  And the gushing of blood.

Poor thing was fine after a few minutes.  I think she was as freaked out as we were.  She is NOT a fan of blood.  As soon as some got on her finger, she FREAKED.  That didn't help the situation.

After hubby got her to eat something and drink some tea (since she has nothing on her stomach basically) and watching a few latenight cartoons, she went back to sleep.  She was sleeping soundly when I left to come to work this morning.

It was a nice sight to see.  Hubby was sleeping and so was the kiddo.  I hope today is much better.  She stayed in her bed for the majority of the day yesterday.  Until we threatened that if she didn't come eat or drink, the Dr. would put her in the hospital.  That's all it took and she perked right up.

So, we are hoping for warmer temps and healed bodies this weekend.  We have a pretty important birthday party to attend tomorrow!

In the life of...

I'm not complaining.  I promise.  I just wondered the other day why I was so tired.  Yes, I know, the first trimester is all about being exhausted.  And I am.

Well, my life doesn't help either.  Here was how our night went Monday/Tuesday morning.

5:25 pm - Get home from work and see one dog has shut herself up in the laundry room (again) and the other has terrorized my living room.  I can only assume she was lonely.  Needless to say they spent a few hours outside when I got home.

5:27 pm - Walked next door to get my kiddo (we carpool with the neighbors).

5:30 pm - Back home and ready to start supper.  For once, I'm not the one that is starving.  Kiddo wants a quesadilla, which she wants quite often lately.  It's easy so I fix it.  She likes to help.

5:45 pm - Dinner of one cheese quesadilla and microwaved lima beans are served.  Don't be jealous of my gourmet cooking skills.  I drank a glass of milk (with some chocolate added in) and an apple with peanut butter.  I know, supper of champs!

6:30 pm - Time for what we call the 'Holy half hour' letter show.  I go get my PJ's on.  Again, don't be jealous, they are just more comfy than regular clothes, for anyone.  The kiddo decides to go potty and get naked to put her jammies on too.

6:40 pm - Kiddo decides it's bath time so she can get the said jammies on.  So in the bathtub she goes as I listen to the Wheel.

7:00 pm - Kiddo finally emerges from the tub.

After about an hour of playing and giggling and fighting, we head off to her bedroom for book time, etc.

8:00 pm - Book selection

8:05 pm - You think I'm kidding?  It's a deliberation EVERY night.  Finally, the new Bible is chosen.  It is decided that we only read half of it and then say our prayers and then it will be bedtime.

8:20 pm - We've finally read half of the Bible book and it's time for prayers.  Kiddo always has fun prayers as you read about yesterday.

8:30 pm - Lights out, story on.
8:40 pm - Me threatening to take toys if my child doesn't stop singing in the bed.
8:45 pm - Repeat
8:50 pm - It finally gets somewhat quiet.
9:00 pm - I hear silence but I don't chance it bey going in.  I just figure she's playing but doing it quietly.  I know her story is almost over and she will holler at me.  I never hear that this night.  RARE.

Much of this time between when she goes to sleep and when I do is spent with Ellen and my Lord.  I watch the day's Ellen episode, if nothing else is on.  Then I do my quiet time. As long as I can still function with my eyes open.  Actually, I have to do my praying with my eyes open at night so I won't fall asleep!

10:15 pm - Hubby gets home from work.

10:30 pm - I finally drift off to sleep.  No, not drift, I fall into a deep slumber.

11:50 pm - I wake up to go to the bathroom.  And yes, I went before I went to sleep.  Twice.

12:15 am - Kiddo wakes up screaming for me.  Hubby is still awake.
I walk in her room to find her crying that she has wet the bed.  Not a big deal.  Except she refuses to take the pants and panties off.  Mama has to do it.  So I holler at the hubby to come help with the sheets.

12:30 am - Kiddo back in bed with clean sheets and off to sleep.  Or so I thought.

12:45 am - Hubby decides to cook him supper.  He works shift work remember, so he eats at WEIRD times.  After attempting to burn down the house and making TONS of racket in the kitchen, which is right outside the bedroom door.  At this point my stomach is growling pretty loudly and keeping me awake as well.
So I decide to eat some peanut butter cookies. Yum. At 1am.

12:55 am - Kiddo is whining about her legs hurting and wanting her music on. I tell her to go to sleep and turn on the music.

1:00 am - Hubby is eating fried shrimp and french fries.  No wonder his gallbladder got pissed off at him last year and we had to take it out...

1:15 am - I think I finally drifted off to sleep.

5:35 am - My evil alarm goes off.  I snooze it.

5:45 am - Evil reminder gets snoozed again.

5:50 am - I drag myself out of the bed and head to the shower.

The rest is history.  Man, just writing that made me tired.  Whew.  Is it naptime yet??  I won't even begin to tell you about the last 2 nights.  It involves other bodily fluids like puke and poop.

Sweet Prayers

The other night the kiddo and I were saying our prayers before bedtime.  I have been praying for her lately and that she will always have a childlike faith.

We always say multiple prayers at night.  Since she's learning her Bible verses she knows to say what verse it is. So, usually our prayers end with a Matthew 5:16 or something!

Then, I asked her to pray for the baby.  Here is what she said:
"Dear God, I really wanted 2 babies but Mama says that's not gonna happen. So help it to grow. Jeremiah 4:13."

I think she might have said some other things but I was trying to hard not to laugh!

The Wizard of Oz

Sunday, the kiddo and I went to the hubby's alma mater to see their production of the Wizard of Oz. Surprisingly enough, my kiddo has never seen the movie.  I wasn't sure how she would handle the almost 3 hour production.

I was surprised!  She was no angel but wasn't terrible.  She really seemed to enjoy it.  She kept forgetting Dorothy's name but she really wanted to see Toto.  She cried crocodile tears at the end because they closed the curtain on Dorothy!

Luckily, we got to meet her after it was over. Of course, the kiddo didn't want to talk to her then!

I asked her when we got in the car why she didn't talk to her. She said she only wanted to see her puppy!

Then, as we drove down the road she told me that one day she wanted to be up on that stage!

There is no doubt in my mind that one day she will be performing the fine arts. She's already got the dramatics for it!

Hellloooo..

Just because we've announced our news pretty much to all the world, there is no need to immediately look at my belly.  I am fat. I have been fat for years.   No, that is not a baby pooch.  It won't be around for a while.  So if you could kindly quit looking at and touching my fat, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!  And Happy Monday.

The secret is out...

Well, my 10 faithful readers already knew it. I just wasn't so sure I was ready for my 967 Facebook friends to know it yet.  Yeah, I know.  That's a tad too many friends...

But last night I posted a few pictures of the shirt the kiddo wore to her birthday party.

So there,  the secret is officially out.  Even though the kiddo tells anyone she comes in contact with that is within at least a 10 mile radius of her.

And this is my 201st post.  Kind of crazy!  Happy Sunday!

Tired

Whew, I'm tired.

I'm physically tired.  I'm one that normally stays up until midnight because I can get so much done at my house once the kiddo is asleep. I don't see how you people who work and have kids get your house clean or do anything else at night and go to bed at 9 or 10.  But here lately, I can't keep my eyes open past about 10 or 10:30 even if I tried.  Not possible.  I'm ready to pass out at like 8.  A few weeks ago, I wasn't feeling well so I turned the kiddo over the the hubby and got in the bed at 6 pm!  Nice!  I didn't go to sleep until 8 because I had to finish reading The Help first. Great book, by the way.  I slept for a glorious 9 hours.  I haven't done that in years.  I'm good at functioning on little sleep.  The hubby on the other hand...if he doesn't get at least 8 hours, you can hang it up. the kiddo takes right after him.  Can we say attitude??

I'm emotionally tired too.  All this stress of the first trimester has really worn on me.  The crappy work schedule my hubby has doesn't help either.  And when he is home, he is in the 'man room' playing some game on the computer with his 'friends' in other countries.  Yet, the kiddo and I are in the next room and he rarely comes out of that room.  I've been tempted lately to go in and unplug everything and cancel our internet but I'm not exactly sure how he would take that. I would probably be a dead woman.  But he's 31 years old and it's time for him to grow up and take some responsibility.  Especially before baby #2 comes.  That's one reason we waited so long to even think about another kiddo.

I see other Dads that are doing stuff for the kids and their spouses and I get jealous.  I know, it's a bad trait I have.  But I envy them.   I long for that kind of help.  Yes, on some days he can be great.  But they are few and far between.

My house is  wreck.  I haven't had the energy to clean anything other than my floors.  And even those aren't very clean.  Would it kill someone else to put a dish in the dishwasher?  Hey KING OF LAZY WHO IS TEACHING THOSE TRAITS TO OUR DAUGHTER, it's not that hard. You get them in the sink, why not finish the job and put them in the dishwasher right NEXT TO IT.

Sorry folks, I just needed to get it off my chest.  And yes, the hubby does read the blog but that's not why I write about him.  Sometimes I just have to get it out or I will explode on the inside.

I think I just need a vacation or at least a day all to myself.  Selfish isn't it?  Just needed.  Maybe one day...

Update

Today, I am officially 10 weeks pregnant.  I went to the Dr. yesterday and my BP was good (had problems with kiddo) and had not gained any weight (yippee)!  He checked baby on the monitor and he/she was wiggling all over the place. Pretty awesome to see feet moving and kicking this early. He could also see the heart beating as well.

The bleeding has ceased all together for now, Praise the Lord!  He told me not to come back for 2 weeks, unless something happens between now and then.

Thank you all who are praying for us.  Please continue!

Answers

I'm here to answer the question I know that at least 2 of you are thinking!

Why didn't we wait until the 12 week mark to tell people about our pregnancy?

For one, I don't keep secrets well.  Or so I've been told.  After all that's happened with us and after another 8 months of trying, we were pretty pumped.

The main reason the hubby convinced me to go ahead and start telling is that it was the kiddo's birthday party and we thought it would be cute for her to tell everyone. She seems pretty excited and tells most anyone that she comes in contact with these days that she's going to be a big sister.  She's had fun with and is counting her months until August. She even told our carpool buddy that she could meet her new baby brother in August.  For everyone's sake, this better be a boy or she is going to be DEVASTATED!

The last reason we were excited to go ahead and tell is that shortly after we learned we were expecting did we find out hubby's middle brother and his wife are also expecting baby #2, but in July.  She's officially 4 weeks ahead of me and we both delivered at 37 weeks.  They were the first (other than my Dr. and nurse) to learn our secret since I left the pics on my camera like an idiot. They kept our secret and told us theirs too.  It's been nice having someone going through it all at the same time.

So there you have it, I'll be 10 weeks tomorrow and I have the 2nd trimester in my sights!  So once again, we thank you and covet your prayers over (for sure) the next 2 weeks, and then the next months to follow.

Sayings From the Kiddo

Last night, the kiddo brought me a sheet of paper and said,
"Look Mama! I found this for you in the stick 'em up tree!"

Translation: I found this in the sycamore tree!

You know! That's where Zacceus went when he wanted to see!
